2008 High School Golf Profiles

Week Three:  Sam Levindofske

Years on Team:  2, I started in my junior year

Position on Team:  #2 as of 10-7-08

Best Part:  That you can compete as a team but also compare your game to other individual golfers.

Worst Part:  The weather as the season goes on gets worse and the season is short.

Positive influence coach:  He knows a lot about the game itself and knows how to give smart advice for course management.

Positive teammates:  Our team has a lot of personalities and playing with each of them is fun.

Favorite shot - 65 yard approach shot to the green

Lesson for younger golfers - The key to golf is the mental game, how to remember the good shots, but forget the bad ones.

Plans beyond high school golf - play golf for Canisius College

Club affiliation:  Orchard Park Country Club

Summer Record - Orchard Park Country Club InterClub team:  2nd Overall.  Medalist at Tri-County for InterClub

Week Two:  Kyle Harman

Years on team: 4

Position on team: 2

Best Part of School golf in WNY:  The different types of weather conditions we play in.

Worst Part:  When they punch the greens and how hard it is to find the ball sometimes with all the leaves.

Coach:  He knows so much about the game and swing.  So when he talks to us about course management or taking one shot at a time I listen because I know it is good advice.

Teammates:  Its nice not just being teammates.  We can help each other with not just golf.

Younger golfer advice:  stay with the game and never lose the main point of the game - Have Fun!

Beyond High School:  Play college golf

Club: South Shore

Week One:  Kyle Jeziorski

Name:  Kyle Jeziorski

School:  Orchard Park High School

Number of years on team:  4 years, I started in 8th grade.

Position:  #1 since I was a sophomore

Best part:  It is very competitive for both the team and the individual

Worst part:  The weather gets worse as the season goes on.

Positive influence, coach:  He only tries to help you if you are struggling, not when you are playing well.

Positive influence, teammates:  I have played with many kids now playing in college and have learned from them.

Favorite shot you can always pull off:  up and down shots from around the green.

Lesson from you to younger golfers:  you can't score if you can't putt.

Plans for golf beyond high school:  I want to play college golf somewhere.

Club Affiliation:  Orchard Park Country Club

Summer Record:  Won National Junior All-Star award at Penn State.   Qualified 3rd for NYSGA Junior Championship.  Overall Medalist for Buffalo District Jr. Interclub Hubbard division.

2007 High School Golf Profiles

Week Six:  Greg Roloff

Name: Greg Roloff

School:  West Seneca West Senior

Number of years on team: 5

Position on team:  #1

Best part of high school golf in WNY:  The chance to play and become friends with many excellent golfers

Worst part of high school golf in WNY:  The weather late in the season can get pretty rough…Especially when there are snowstorms in October.

Describe the Positive Influence of your coach:  My coach, Lori Potter is the absolute best. She’s always got something positive to say and has helped me foster valuable characteristics in myself as both a golfer, and a person. She will always go the extra mile to help her golfers improve. I’ll miss her a lot next year.

Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates:  The WSW Golf Team is a pretty tight-knit group, and they have supported me through thick and thin. Plus, the jokes and comic relief that some of the guys provide can help you take your mind off the pressure we face every match.

Favorite shot you can always pull off:  Greenside pitch.

Lesson from you to younger golfers:  Develop a good mental game and try to instill confidence in yourself. The correlation between thinking well and hitting good shots is not 100%, but the correlation between thinking badly and hitting poor shots is much higher.

Plans for golf beyond high school:  I am hoping to successfully combine academics and golf in my college career.

Club Affiliation: No affiliation. I play just about everywhere.

Summer Record: I had two wins, one runner-up finish with a (-1) 71 at The Links at Ivy Ridge, and three other top tens on the various Junior Tours I’m on.

Week Five:  Natalie Wisniewski

Name: Natalie Wisniewski

School:  Williamsville South

Number of years on team:  2 years on the boys team, 1 year on the girls

Position on team: #1

Best part of high school golf in WNY:  Learning to play in various weather conditions

Worst part of high school golf in WNY:  The girls don’t get to play as many private courses as the boys.  Hopefully that will change in the future.

Describe the Positive Influence of your coach:  Showing how dedication & the right attitude will result in positive outcomes.

Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates:  The value of developing new friendships & having fun while playing golf.

Favorite shot you can always pull off:  I don’t have a favorite shot.  I try to execute every shot to the best of my ability.

Lesson from you to younger golfers:  You can never practice enough on the short game, especially putting and always have fun.

Plans for golf beyond high school:  Division 1 College in the South or West

Club Affiliation:  East Aurora Country Club

Summer Record:
2nd Place FCWT – Red Tail Golf Open –
Devens, Massachusetts

Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates:  We always had a good time with each other.

Lesson from you to younger golfers:  Always keep your head up, don't let a bad shot ruin your game.

Plans for golf beyond high school:  College - Division 1

Club Affiliation: Springville Country Club

Summer Record:

Week Three:  Billy Lewis

Name: Billy Lewis
School: St. Mary's of Lancaster

Position (number one, etc.) on team: #1 since I started.
Best part of high school golf in WNY: The great competition and all the people I met.
Worst part of high school golf in WNY: The season is too short.  It would be nice if we could play in the Spring.
Describe the Positive Influence of your coach: I will always look "up" to him.
Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates: They always give 110%.  That helps me to play well.
Favorite shot you can always pull off: Green-side chip shots.
Lesson from you to younger golfers: Practice all different shots, not just drives.
Plans for golf beyond high school: I hope to attend a division I or II school for golf and hockey.
Club Affiliation: Fox Valley Country Club in Lancaster, New York.
Summer Record (If Any):  I placed 7th in the NYSGA junior qualifier.  I also won the junior championship at Fox Valley

Week Two:  Tom Walter

Name: Tom Walter
School: Depew
Number of years on team: This is my sixth year on the Varsity golf team.
Position (number one, etc.) on team: My position right now on the golf team is number one.
Best part of high school golf in WNY: The best part of high school golf in WNY is the ability to meet so many people and play with so many great players.
Worst part of high school golf in WNY: I would have to say that the worst thing about high school golf is that by the end of the season we finish in the dark. You can tell the season is coming to an end as we start to finish when the sun is setting. That is the worst thing about high school golf in WNY to me.
Describe the Positive Influence of your coach: My coach has taught me many things, and has had a huge influence on me. He has always been a great golfer and I have always wanted to play as well as him. The best
advice my coach has given me is that he taught me to never give up.
Whenever I have a bad hole or even a bad shot, he taught me that it is
not an option to give up. That is something that has really changed the
way I play golf.
Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates: My teammates over the years have had a very strong influence on me. When I first started out as a seventh grader, there were many great players on the team. I always
idolized a kid by the name of Zak. Watching him play was just more drive for me to be the best golfer I could be. So many of my teammates have pushed me to get better and always try my best. The team I have right now is the tightest team I have ever been apart of. We always encourage each other to do our best, and no matter the outcome we are still a team. Whenever the team is together, we always have a great time.
Favorite shot you can always pull off: The shot I can always pull off is a punch 3-iron fade or slice, depending. If I get into trouble, I will always try to play a low fade. I can hit this shot really any distance with as much fade as I want.
Lesson from you to younger golfers: The biggest lesson from me to younger golfers is to always try your best. I don't care if it is a practice round or a match, or just hitting balls. Always hit every shot with your full potential and always give 100 percent on every shot.
Plans for golf beyond high school: In the fall of 2008 I plan to attend Methodist University in Fayetteville, North Carolina. I will major in Business Administration with a concentration in Pro Golf Management.
Club Affiliation: I am a junior member at Bridgewater Country Club in Fort Erie, Ontario.
Summer Record (If Any):

Week One:  Zach Clark

Name: Zach Clark
School: Niagara Catholic
Number of years on team: two (Freshman & currently Sophomore)
Position on team: Played in the number one slot both years.
Best part of high school golf in WNY: Playing some of the best courses in the area.
Worst part of high school golf in WNY: The season is too short!
Describe the Positive Influence of your coach: He keeps our team spirt high and always supports us.
Describe the Positive Influence of your teammates: My teammates always give 110 percent.
Favorite shot you can always pull off: Getting up and down from green-side bunkers.
Lesson from you to younger golfers: Practice doesn't make perfect... perfect practice makes perfect.
Plans for golf beyond high school: To play collegiate golf on a top ranked team.
Club Affiliation: Niagara Frontier Country Club, Youngstown, NY
Summer Record: Placed 10th in the New York State All-Catholic championship in New York
City and I was the only freshman in western New York to qualify for the tournament.
